Fillings

A filling replaces part of a tooth that has been lost either to decay or damage.

White fillings are virtually invisible and as they are glued into place they are less damaging to teeth than traditional metal fillings. They can be used in the back teeth, although where there is a large amount of decay or damage they may not be as durable as other materials.

Amalgam silver fillings are strong are hardwearing and have an excellent life span, though many patients find them unsightly and prefer to have white filling alternatives.

When providing a filling your dentist or therapist will use a local anaesthetic to numb the area around the tooth to be filled before decay is removed. Once the decay has been removed, they will prepare the space for the filling by cleaning the cavity of bacteria and debris.

If you have noticeably damaged or painful teeth, book a consultation with one of our dentists.
